Spam is a real problem today. 75% of the email processed is spam. In order to keep it from overwhelming us we had to install a filtering program. The default settings on the filter will catch most spam. Since I can't see any reason anyone would want a virus, it discards all known viruses. If these settings are ok, you don't need to do anything else. If you want control of your settings just login to http://ns2.jas.net/filter/ and enter your email address and password. Then you can set it the way you want. Once you have logged in you will have a white list, blacklist, spam quarentine and a ham (good email) area. If you are getting spam, the first thing you will want to do is change your spam detect level. There are 2 ways to change your level. On the left under Current protection you can choose from low, medium or high. If you want more exact control Click on the icon that looks like a gear. Now click on your email address. You can change your level from 0 (very strict) to 20 (very lenient). Actually anything 10 or higher will let most spam in. You should view the spam (second envelope down) and see if it is actually spam. With strict settings, the filter is likely to catch somthing you want. If you see a good email, click on it's subject and use the resque icon (looks like a life saver) to send good email on to your inbox and automatically tell the filter not to catch that address again. Then delete all the remaining spam. Now you need to train the filter as to what is and is not spam. Check your good email (first envelope) You will see a list of what has been sent to your inbox as good email. If any of it was spam change the setting on that email to spam. Now click Confirm Status to let the filter know about it. Now you are ready to exit by clicking the EXIT icon to the far right. This process should be done daily. --------------------------------------- On www.jas.net under the software button there is a link to the Mozilla browser and email client. It has pop-up blockers and anti-spam filters built into it.
