We are proud to announce the availability of a pop-up
blocker/accelerator for jas.net customers. Here I will answer a few
questions to help you decide if you need to use it and then tell you
how to activate it.
1. Will this block those pesky pop-ups while browsing the web?
Yes, most advertisements and pop-ups will be stopped. Where the
advertisement would have been you will get a text message saying an
advertisement was blocked. This is incorporated in the webpage so the
rest of the page is unchanged. If you get a advertisement or pop-up
just get the properties of the page and send me the url address. I can
make the software block it too. If an entire page is blocked that
shouldn't be, send that url address also and I can unblock it.
2. Will this increase my speed?
You will see some speed increase. I am not going to lie and say
it
will be 5 times faster. The only way to get a large speed increase is
to compress graphics so they are basically unrecognizable. If we do
that, we might as well just turn off graphics all together. This is
easily done in the browser settings.
3. What if I try it and decide I don't want it?
That is one of the beauties of this. You don't install anything. You
just change a setting in your browser. To stop using it just uncheck
that setting.
To enable the blocker/accelerator in Internet Explorer, click start
(settings on 95 - ME) and control panel. Find Internet properties and
bring it up and click the connections tab. You will see your jas net
dialer in the little window. Click the Settings button to the right of
it. Put a check on "use proxy server" box. In the Address field, type
in adblock.jas.net and type in 3128 in the Port field. Click apply and
ok. Now the next time you dial in you should be protected from pop-ups
generated at websights you visit. To stop using the blocker just take
the check off the "use proxy server" box.
If you have Mozilla you already have pop-up blocking built in. If you
want to try out the accelerator part click edit, preferences, advanced,
proxies. Put a dot in the "manual proxy configuration" option and put
adblock.jas.net in the address field and 3128 in the port field.
Hopefully using this will stop some of the spyware and trojuns.
